When all is said and done, and you can’t find any good water on the Oregon coast for steelhead fishing, there remains a great option. It’s a road trip for most, but it’s well worth it. Plunking, or fishing a river bar with a heavy weight and a spin & glow, is not just for the retired set, it’s a fantastic way to get in some great steelhead action when conditions are otherwise not good.

The good folks at Rogue Outdoor Store take you through the tackle and setup, and South Coast district biologist Steve Mazur shows you how it’s done.
