Reply Dave Feldman on August 4, 2019 at 7:47 pm Hi AK — I’ve been a long time fan, and as another commenter mentioned, I’m quite obsessed with cholesterol, particularly with regard to metabolic influence (see my many experiments or lectures 🙂 ). You say something here that struck me – that “the majority of cells in the periphery receive their cholesterol from circulating lipoproteins”. Current lipidologists would insist this is a rarity and unnecessary because every nucleated cell can synthesize its own cholesterol. That said, I’m much more at odds with this prevailing opinion and believe there’s a much greater uptake in the periphery — but your statement here is the only one I’ve seen that suggests most cells can’t do this in the first place, which would be quite significant to me if true. Can you suggest some further reading where I could find this information? Thanks! Reply Dave Feldman on August 4, 2019 at 7:53 pm One experiment I sought to do in order to induce a drop in LDL-C/-P literally required my eating exactly the same way every day for 20 days, with two intensive exercise interventions; both of which did indeed show a reduction over a few days along with a precipitous return to the baseline levels. My hypothesis suggesting this drop is due to muscle growth and repair inducing a greater receptor mediated endocytosis to those target tissues.
